Ryan Gosling is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the Project Hail Mary star will headline a brand-new standalone Ghost Rider film, bringing one of Marvel’s most iconic supernatural heroes into the MCU.

The announcement immediately became one of the convention’s biggest moments, with fans erupting as Gosling appeared on stage to celebrate the long-rumored casting. Although Marvel has not revealed which version of Ghost Rider will take center stage, many expect Gosling to portray Johnny Blaze—the legendary stunt motorcyclist who sells his soul and transforms into the fiery Spirit of Vengeance.

The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, whose recent work includes Deadpool & Wolverine. The project marks another collaboration between Levy and Gosling following their upcoming science-fiction adventure, Star Wars: Starfighter.

Gosling becomes only the second actor to lead a live-action Ghost Rider feature film after Nicolas Cage famously portrayed Johnny Blaze in the 2007 original and its sequel.
