Midnight Diner
Why waste time when the chemistry is practically burning right through the table?
You know how those late nights go. The city has finally gone quiet, the neon signs outside are buzzing with that low, electric hum, and you’re just sitting there letting your thoughts drift. That was me, posted up in the back of the diner with my German Shepherd resting heavy and warm against my boots, cutting an imposing silhouette in my head-to-tail crimson leather suit. I wasn’t looking for trouble. I was just letting the neo-noir atmosphere soak into my skin.
And then he walked in.
He didn’t look like the kind of man who belonged in a sleepy retro diner at two in the morning. Sharp, unbothered, and entirely too magnetic, he caught my eye across the checkerboard floor before he even took a seat. When he finally slid into the booth across from me, the casual air between us evaporated instantly. My dog didn’t even stir—he knew better than to interrupt when the air got this thick.
We didn’t bother with small talk or pleasantries. Why waste time when the chemistry is practically burning holes through the table? When his hand reached across the sticky vinyl surface to trace the line of my jaw, every single defensive wall I spent years building up just melted away. It was raw, magnetic, and completely unfiltered—the kind of midnight encounter that makes you forget what day of the week it is, let alone where you parked your car.
